As I set out to paddle on a September Sunday, my dog followed me down the dock. She was sniffing around our floating dock, when I heard a splash and she jumped back. I went to investigate and found a young dolphin, certainly weaned but not an adult, swimming in place by the corner of our dock. He'd dive under the murky water for 30 seconds or so, then pop up in almost the same place, blowing a breath each time. He stayed for about an hour, then spent almost another hour at the neighbor's dock...
